Turmeric Daily Diet

Turmeric has various health benefits due to its anti-inflammatory properties. In Ayurvedic medicine, Turmeric was known to have medicinal properties that may help to aid conditions like arthritis, digestive problems, dissolving gallstones, relieving arthritis and regulating menstruation. In addition, several scientific studies suggest it may help prevent cancer and heart disease and delay aging.

However, the anti-inflammatory properties of Turmeric may also benefit various aspects of oral health, like gingivitis or oral cancers. According to a study by the Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology in 2012, turmeric mouthwash has anti-plaque, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties.

Whilst many applications use Turmeric extract to achieve health benefits; there are also easy ways to incorporate Turmeric into your everyday cooking as a spice. And make sure you pair your Turmeric intake with black pepper or oil (for example, coconut oil or MCT oil) to increase absorption.

Here I share three recipes to enjoy the benefits of Turmeric in your daily diet:

Cleansing Turmeric & Ginger Tea

Ingredients

250 ml (9 fl oz/1 cup) almond or rice milk
2 teaspoons ground turmeric
1 teaspoon finely grated ginger
6 drops of stevia liquid

Method

Add the almond milk to a small saucepan and heat gently until it reaches room temperature.
Add the Turmeric and ginger to a mug.
Pour a small amount of warm milk into the mug and stir to create a liquid paste, ensuring there are no lumps.
Add the remaining milk and sweeten with stevia.

Golden Turmeric Milk
Ingredients

250 ml almond milk (you can also use coconut milk).
1 teaspoon freshly grated Turmeric.
5 ml MCT oil.
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
Pinch of ground black pepper.

Method

Gently warm ‘milk’ in a small pot on the stove. Add Turmeric, cinnamon and black pepper, stir and simmer for 30 seconds.
Lastly, add MCT oil and stir to mix through.
Pour in your favourite mug and sprinkle some pepper or cinnamon for garnish.

Spiced Kale & Turmeric Scramble

Ingredients

2 eggs
1 cup chopped kale
1.5 tsp turmeric
1 garlic
1 tbsp butter
salt and pepper to taste

Method

Heat the butter in a skillet. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs.
Add chopped kale to the skillet and cook until slightly wilted. Then add whisked eggs.
Add Turmeric, garlic, salt and pepper and cook.
