Beyond Aesthetics: How Zirconia Implants Transformed More Than Just a Smile

Long-term use of lemon water and apple cider vinegar to stimulate morning digestion had removed much of the patient’s enamel, making it impossible for her to achieve a brighter smile regardless of which whitening product she used. She also had titanium implants that had never felt comfortable, causing a metallic taste and sore gums around them. An early-career nose operation had resulted in the collapse of her nasal airway, forcing her to rely on mouth breathing. This led to poor sleep, anxiety, dry mouth, and clenching.

She came to Dental Wellness asking to optimize her dental situation so she could proudly smile again with the radiance she remembered.

Procedure
The team began by surgically removing her titanium implants, which were so infected that the socket oozed oily blood—indicating lipolysis from bony necrosis. All of her root canal-treated teeth were carefully surgically removed after clear identification of infection on Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging. We used A-PRF (Advanced Platelet-Rich Fibrin) to optimize healing and bone formation. A strict nutritional program was followed with D3/K2, Magnesium, Vitamin C, Omega-3 supplementation, and organ meats.

A digital smile design was created involving aesthetic veneers and full lower jaw rehabilitation to open her bite, duplicating what it was before the enamel loss.

Zirconia dental implants were placed in the desired position, and after 4-6 months, these implants were loaded with metal-free crowns at the same time as virtual no preparation veneers were placed. A three-unit all-zirconia bridge was placed where a zirconia implant was not possible.

Results
The results were amazing. The patient, having been a dental assistant when very young, was excited to work closely with our world-class dental technicians at wssd.com.au.

This was a major investment, but now her headaches have gone. A night nylon splint protects all of her ceramics during sleep. A referral to an ENT Specialist enabled the reconstruction of her airway, allowing her to now breathe through her nose. This has led to a calm, happy, energized person ready to take on the next chapter in her life with a smile that reflects her inner health and beauty.

All aspects of the Oral FITNESS plan were integrated, creating a Safer, Healthy, Beautiful Smile.
