Over 50% of a person’s silver fillings are made of organic Mercury and dangerous levels of mercury vapour release when you chew, grind, brush or have hot drinks. And many people don’t know, the biggest exposure to this mercury is when the dentist cuts your old fillings out with a drill. For this reason, any mercury amalgam fragments collected in the suction system from the removal of mercury amalgam fillings need to be removed from the dental surgery as toxic waste. This is the law.

A there is NO level of mercury that does NO harm, I have prioritised the safety and wellbeing of our patients, staff and the environment. Some years back I was the first Australian Dentist to have received SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) Certification from the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology).

Dentists achieving SMART certification are recognised for their completion of the new certification, which has been developed from the latest scientific research. We are listed on the IAOMT’s Dentist Directory so that patients opting to find a dentist knowledgeable about mercury, safe removal, fluoride, biological periodontal therapy, root canals, and jawbone osteonecrosis can do so.

In case you still have mercury fillings, you should take some actions to reduce the release of toxic mercury vapour and to diminish its health impact. In this article I’ll share 5 foods I suggest you include in your Christmas festivities if you have still mercury-silver fillings.

Last Sunday I visited the Northey Street Organic markets in Downey Park (Brisbane) and it was easy to find the suggested foods:

Broccoli, Brussel sprouts and cauliflower – the brassica family when chewed produce a Super Antioxidant called Sulphurophane. This is a thousand times more powerful than vitamin C to help the body detox and boost liver function against mercury toxicity. 5 foods I suggest you include in your Christmas festivities if you have Amalgam Fillings

Brazil nuts – 4-6 a day will provide your daily amount of Selenium 200mcg which has anti-mercury and anti-cancer properties.

Organic eggs provide essential minerals and protein amino acids especially Cysteine and Methionine for mercury detoxification.

Garlic is a high sulphur compound that is a natural chelator of mercury.

Coriander is also known as Cilantro. An excellent heavy metal binder that allows for the natural bodies removal of mercury.

In one of the next articles, I’ll share more methods for reducing the amount of mercury released.
