Well, I’m Dr David Cowhig, founder of Dental Wellness, and we’ve been fixing root canal problems with all-ceramic replacements, and that’s using zirconia, all-ceramic dental implants. I placed my first, and I think I was the first Australian dentist in Australasia to place a ceramic implant back in 2008. So, 15 years on, we’ve had a lot of experience with safely removing infected root canals, first of all, identifying them and using high-technology cone-beam CT scans. And then doing a safe protocol of safely removing, if that’s what you want – safely removing that infected tooth using components of your own blood to accelerate healing and get optimal healing. Then, placement, sometimes immediate, but sometimes delayed, of a ceramic implant, which then, six months later, is restored with an all-ceramic crown – an abutment. So the abutment is something that screws into the implant that emerges through the gum, and then we’re able to put a really lovely looking crown that looks like a real tooth.

And that’s the benefit of ceramic implants. They have no soft tissue inflammation around them. You don’t get the reaction and metal ion release you might do with titanium implants. The body likes them; the soft tissue likes them. And really, it’s taking again treating the patient as a whole.
